Mooresville is nestled along Lake Norman, a 32,500-acre lake perfect for swimming, fishing, boating, and other water sports activities. Other nearby attractions include the Trump National Golf Course, Lazy 5 Ranch, Zootastic Park, and Carrigan Farms.
 
The town centers around the Mooresville Historic District, located downtown, lined with historic buildings hosting unique, locally owned shops, eateries, and other small businesses. Annual community events in Mooresville include Artoberfest, Festival of Food Trucks, Music on Main, Fall Festival, the Mooresville Christmas Parade, and more. Mooresville is also home to the corporate headquarters of Lowe’s Companies.

Mooresville has 17 schools in its boundaries, eight of which are in the Mooresville Graded School District, and nine of which are in Iredell-Statesville Schools. There are three private schools within the Mooresville vicinity, including Lake Norman Christian School and Davidson Day School in Davidson, and Woodlawn School, located just a few miles south of Mooresville. Mooresville is also home to the Universal Technical Institute’s NASCAR Technical Institute and a campus of Mitchell Community College. Additionally, residents may access a number of nearby colleges and universities, including Davidson College, the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, and many more.
 

History

In its early days, Mooresville developed from a farming community to a village known as Moore’s Siding. In 1873, the village was incorporated as the town of Mooresville. Textile mills played a major role in Mooresville’s economic growth, and it served as a mill town for over a century. The construction of the man-made Lake Norman increased the popularity of Mooresville, which receives energy, prosperity, land, and water from the lake. The construction of I-77 also aided in the popularity of Mooresville, making travel to and from Charlotte more convenient for residents and visitors.
